URL Encoder & Decoder
Encode special characters so they are safe in a URL, or decode a percent-encoded string back to readable text.
Component vs full URL
Component mode encodes everything except letters, digits and - _ . ! ~ * ' ( ). Use it for a single query value or path segment. Full URL mode keeps characters that have meaning in a URL (: / ? # & =) so the address still works.
Common encodings
A space becomes %20, an ampersand %26, a slash %2F and a plus sign %2B.
Frequently asked questions
Why does decoding show an error?
The input contains a '%' that is not followed by two hex digits, so it is not valid percent-encoding.
Should I encode the whole URL?
Usually no. Encode each query value with component mode and keep the rest of the URL as it is.
Is anything sent to a server?
No. Encoding and decoding run in your browser.
