Frequently asked questions

Which tax regime is better for FY 2026-27?

It depends on your deductions. With few deductions the new regime is usually cheaper; with large deductions (HRA, home loan interest, 80C, 80D) the old regime can win. This calculator compares both for your numbers.

Is income up to ₹12 lakh really tax-free?

Under the new regime, taxable income up to ₹12 lakh has nil tax after the Section 87A rebate. For salaried taxpayers that corresponds to about ₹12.75 lakh of gross salary after the ₹75,000 standard deduction.

Does this include surcharge and cess?

Yes. 4% health and education cess is included, and surcharge is applied for income above ₹50 lakh, without marginal relief.
