Color harmonies explained
Analogous colors sit next to each other on the color wheel and feel calm and cohesive. Complementary colors are opposites and create strong contrast. Triadic uses three evenly spaced hues for a vibrant but balanced look. Split-complementary softens complementary contrast. Tetradic uses four hues for rich palettes, and monochromatic varies lightness of one hue for a clean, minimal feel.
Using your palette
A reliable rule is 60-30-10: 60% a dominant neutral or base color, 30% a secondary color and 10% an accent. Always check text contrast against WCAG guidelines (at least 4.5:1 for body text).
Frequently asked questions
How do I choose colors that go well together?
Start from one base color and apply a harmony rule such as analogous, complementary or triadic. This generator builds those relationships on the color wheel for you.
Can I export the palette to CSS?
Yes. Copy the CSS variables output and paste it into your stylesheet's :root block.
What is a monochromatic palette?
A palette that uses a single hue at different lightness levels. It always looks harmonious and works well for minimal designs.
